President's Message

Sylvia Scoggin

NSSTA President

2022-2024

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine recently issued a report titled Call to Action for Science Education: Building Opportunity for the Future which lays out a vision for high-quality science education. The report describes gaps in opportunity that currently exist for many students in our nation and outlines key priorities to advance better, more equitable science education.

As science educators in Nevada, we are acutely aware of these gaps in opportunities for our students who are spread across a vast and varied landscape comprised of rural, suburban, and urban areas with immense differences which go beyond geography.

This report calls on federal and state policy makers to raise the profile of science education for all students. Nevada State Science Teachers Association works towards this by fostering collaborations between ALL science educators, formal and informal, community members, and state entities.

Together we can raise our voices to advocate for equitable access to high quality, standards-aligned science instruction for all Nevada students. Please join us in raising awareness of the importance of science education in Nevada.
